Maruti Suzuki is betting big on the new Ciaz that replaces the SX4 in its stable and will be locking horns with the Honda City, Volkswagen Vento, Hyundai Verna and the likes in the C-segment sedan space.
Maruti Suzuki has finally confirmed the date for its all-new Ciaz sedan that will be launched on 6th October, 2014 across the country. The company’s most ambitious product for the year, the Ciaz is Maruti’s giant step into the big league and the automaker is making sure to check in all the right boxes that will make the sedan a sucessful product in the segment. Replacing the SX4, the Ciaz comes with a whole new design, while the interiors have been concentrated to offer a premium experience with emphasis on rear seat comfort.
The Ciaz will be launched in a total of 10 variants spread across two engine options. There are 4 petrol variants namely VXi, VXi+, ZXi, ZXi+ and additionlly 2 automatic variants called VXi+ Automatic and ZXi+ Automatic. The diesel version on the other hand will be offered in VDi, VDi+, ZDi and ZDi+ variants. Engine options were revealed early on and include the 1.4-litre K-Series petrol motor producing 95 PS of power and 130 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual and a 4-speed automatic gearbox. Diesel duties are performed by the 1.3-litre DDiS unit producing 90 PS and 200 Nm of torque, paired to a 5-speed manual transmission.
The Ciaz will come loaded with features like projector headlamps, electrically adjustable ORVMs, keyless entry, USB and AUX connectivity right from the base variants. The higher trims will get leather upholstery, climate control, rear AC vents, 15-inch alloy wheels, parking sensors, driver side airbag, ABS and EBD as part of standard kit. Set to compete agains the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Volkswagen Vento and the likes in the segment, the Maruti Ciaz is expected to be aggressively priced between Rs. 7.5 lakhs going up to Rs. 10 lakhs for the top-end diesel variant (ex-showroom, Delhi). Maruti claims to have received over 6000 bookings for the Ciaz till date and the number is expected to escalate further till the launch.
