The TVS Apache 180 gets a comprehensive update as a stop-gap measure till the Apache 250 (based on the Draken Concept) arrives next year. The updated Apache sounds very tempting on paper.
The TVS Apache is a very popular bike in India, second only to the Pulsars but the lack of updates over time has reduced its visibility. It’s no secret that TVS plans to launch an upgraded Apache and the company’s facebook page has been releasing teasers every now and then. The latest teaser has given away a lot of information of the bike and the upgrades do sound delicious to us. The automaker has worked on most aspects of the RTR machine although there might not be significant changes to the styling.
The 180cc single-cylinder engine now gets liquid-cooling and uses 4-valves, TVS says the bike has ‘turbotune’ technology. Both the power and torque output of the Apache 180 is expected to increase, the current bike’s 177.4cc air-cooled mill produces 17.03 BHP and 15.5 Nm. TVS has also give the Apache a horizontally mounted rear monoshock which is bound to work wonders for the handling of the motorcycle. A host of goodies have been added as well like an under-seat mobile charger, side stand indicator, parking indicator and Astra Gold sprocket.
TVS has also updated the rubber on the bike, the new Apache 180 using Michelin sourced dual compound tyres (the old bike uses TVS tyres which lack grip). TVS will launch the updated Apache later this month and one can expect the price to see an upward revision which is totally justified considering the added performance and features on offer. The automaker will continue to offer ABS as an option on the Apache 180. The new Apache 180 will compete directly with the Bajaj Pulsar 200 NS and the updated Karizmas.
