TVS Apache Matte Black Edition

The TVS Apache managed to find a cult status in the biking community in a very short span of time. The high revving engine coupled with overwhelming handling dynamics has been adorned by many, while the aficionados just swear by the product. One of the toughest rivals to the Bajaj Pulsar at one time in the segment, the Apache has lost its sheen in recent times, especially with new competition coming in. However, TVS has been working on its flagship model and will be introducing an updated RTR 180 later this year. The Apache 250 that has been eagerly awaited however has been pushed for a 2015 launch.

As per recent reports, TVS will be launching the Apache 250cc variant on 14th January 2015, while there is no 350cc+ motorcycle up for launch before 2016. The company as part of its plan to launch a new product every quarter will be bringing the updated Apache RTR 180 in the last quarter of this year. The update will see the addition of a new Honda-esque Combi Braking System, while an improved ABS system is also in the works. TVS is said to be testing the new combi braking system on the RTR 180 and has been getting fruitful results. The new system will also be available on the 250cc version.

Furthermore, the Apache 180 and 250 variants will get balancers to keep the vibrations in check. TVS will also be upgrading to soft compound tyres from Michelin. TVS is currently readying prototypes of the Apache 250 that will be put through extensive track testing. These prototypes will be sharing a lot of components with the RTR 180 including the front mudguard, handlebar grips, indicators, foot-pegs and rear disc brake assembly.

While more details are yet to be revealed on the TVS Apache 250, we do know that the production spec model will be taking inspiration from the Draken concept showcased at the Auto Expo this year, whereas the pricing is expected to be very competitive at around Rs. 1.35 lakhs (ex-showroom). The Apache 250 will be competing against the KTM RC 200, Mahindra Mojo 300, Honda CBF300R and the likes in the segment.
