Land Rover has just completed five years of operations in India. To celebrate this occasion, the company has launched the Freelander 2 Sterling Edition. The current Freelander was launched in 2013 and the company also introduced a low-price S Business variant of the SUV. Land Rover will be launching the new Freelander 2 in 2015 and hence launching this limited edition model could be a bid to clear off existing inventory too. Apart from the Sterling Edition, the Freelander 2 is available in three trims – S, SE and HSE.
The Land Rover Freelander 2 Sterling Edition gets a new body kit with bumper skirts at the front and back. It also gets meaty 17-inch alloys which look very sporty. These alloy wheels come in an Anthracite finish. Apart from these changes, the limited edition also gets a single tail pipe finished in a shade of black, dark atlas grille, dark atlas fender, tailgate spoiler and lower door claddings. The Sterling Edition gets only these cosmetic changes while the overall vehicle still remains the same.
Since nothing has changed mechanically, the Land Rover Freelander 2 Sterling Edition is powered by the same 2.2-litre diesel engine that gives out 150 PS of power and 420 Nm of torque. The engine is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The Sterling Edition will not be offered with the 190 PS state of tune. Land Rover will make only limited units of the limited edition. The Freelander 2 Sterling Edition is priced at Rs. 44.41 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai pre-octroi) and it competes with the likes of the Audi Q5, BMW X3 and Volvo XC60.
