While the Indian spec Hyundai Elite i20 was launched in the country to rave reviews and over 15,000 bookings, the South Korean automaker will introduce the European spec new generation i20 to the world at the Paris Motor Show in October this year. Ahead of its public debut, Hyundai has previewed the coupe version of the new i20 in an official sketch giving a glimpse of what the 3-door model will look like when launched.
The new generation 2015 Hyundai i20 coupe will not be radically different from its 5-door sibling. The premium hatchback will sport the same dimensions and specifications, but gets a reworked side profile, enhancing the sporty exterior in its 3-door avatar. As seen in the sketch, the new i20 coupe features a more sharply raked rear pillar and a distinctive roof spoiler. At the rear, the wraparound rear window and the unique shaped LED equipped tail light cluster compliment the coupe very well.
Like its 5-door sibling, the 2015 Hyundai i20 coupe was designed at the company’s European design centre in Russelheim, Germany, while the hatchback was engineered at the automaker’s new test centre near the Nurburgring circuit. The new i20 will go on sale in Europe in January, 2015, while the coupe version will follow by March next year. There is also an ‘N’ performance version planned for the new i20 that is expected to get a turbo coupled to the 1.4-litre petrol motor that will produce in excess of 100 BHP of power.
The performance version will also get a firmer suspension setup than the regular model, while the interiors will be distinguishably different courtesy of the new colour scheme on offer. Hyundai has been working on the performance version in tandem with its rally drivers to make the new i20 more engaging and fun to drive. The i20 performance version is expected to launch in the second half of 2015 in Europe. Hyundai will reveal complete details on the i20 coupe including engine options at the Paris Motor Show.
