The Fiat 500 Abarth was first displayed at the Auto Expo earlier this year. Soon after that, we drove the cute, little hatchback for the first time and it left us wanting for more. The Fiat 500 is a pure enthusiast’s car and it yearns to fulfil all your driving pleasure desires. The 500 will be launched in India as a CBU and the first few units have already arrived in the country for homologation. The 500 looks beautiful and the esseessee kit just adds that much-needed aggressive touch to the vehicle. The 500 will not get any Fiat logos but Scorpion logos instead.
Powering the Fiat 500 Abarth is a 1.4-litre MultiAir turbocharged petrol engine mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox. This powerplant gives out 160 PS of power and 230 Nm of torque. It comes with two intercoolers and a high flow air filter. The 500 gets a number of safety features such as 7 airbags, ABS and ESC. Available in four colours – Nero Puro (Black), Bianco (White), Granito Lucente (Grey) and Rosso (Red), the Fiat 500 provides a great blend of performance, comfort and exclusivity.
The Fiat 500 Abarth is priced at Rs. 16.70 lakhs (ex-factory) and after adding up the insane duties that are charged in India, we can expect the 500 to be priced anywhere between Rs. 25-28 lakhs (ex-showroom). It will compete with the MINI Cooper 1.6 S which sells in decent numbers. Since the 500 too will cater to a niche segment of buyers, it may not set the sales charts on fire but it would be good if we could feast our eyes on some of these Scorpions plying on our roads. Fiat will launch the car in the country in November.
