Ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show, Skoda has released the first image revealing the 2015 Fabia’s interior online, while also releasing the features and other technical details of the cabin of the new Fabia hatchback. As the Czech based automaker puts it, the new model is cleverer and more practical than before with the largest boot in the small car segment. Skoda further states that the new Fabia has a total of 17 ‘Simply Clever’ features, out of which nine are new.
In terms of cabin space, the 2015 Skoda Fabia has grown by 8 mm to 1674 mm in length, but is now shorter by 8 mm than the outgoing model. The elbow room has also increased at the front by 21 mm at 1401 mm, while the rear has grown 2 mm longer at 1386 mm. The boot capacity is now a healthy 330-litres, 15-litres more than its predecessor and is larger than comparable competitor models. The boot capacity can also be further expanded to 1150-litres with the rear seats folded down. Skoda has also made the access to the boot area easier with a low sill height and a wider opening tailgate. The loading area has grown wider by 2 cms to 960 mm compared to the previous generation model.
The feature list on the 2015 Fabia is quite extensive with the premium hatchback being the first Skoda to get MirrorLink technology. The new tech allows connecting your smartphone to the hatchback’s infotainment system via the USB cable, thereby allowing an easier use of navigation and other applications of the phone on the car’s touchscreen display system. The other feature to debut is the new SmartGate that permits certain vehicle data such as fuel consumption, average speed, journey costs to specific applications on a smartphone for storage and mobile use. The data is transferred via Wi-Fi technology.
The third generation Skoda Fabia also gets a host of cubby storage spaces throughout the cabin including mobile and iPod storage cradle in the centre console, storage nets on the inside edges of the seats as well as rubbish bins on the side doors. There is a provision for holding half-litre and one litre bottles on the front and rear doors, inside the glovebox and in the centre console as well. You can store up to seven bottles inside the cabin. Other storage spaces include the parking ticket holder, optional bag hooks and two storage nets. Skoda has also added the corner light function for the fog lamps on the next generation Fabia.
