After much hiatus, Mahindra 2-Wheelers has certainly tasted success with the Centuro in the two-wheeler segment. Taking the success of the Centuro brand further, the company has launched the Centuro Rockstar special edition motorcycle in the country, priced at Rs. 43,700/- (ex-showroom, Delhi). The Rockstar edition is essentially a stripped down version of the regular Centuro that skips on certain features to be priced more attractively, while retaining the key characteristics.
Priced Rs. 3000/- cheaper than the regular Centuro, the Mahindra Centuro Rockstar edition is differentiated by the new ‘Rockstar’ body graphics with a new colour combination of red, black and gold, while the trademark horizontal bars finished in copper (ribs in Mahindra speak) have been retained. In terms of features, the Rockstar edition sports LED pilot lamps and brake light, electric start, flip-key, alloy wheels as well as maintenance free VRLA battery. The special edition model however misses out on steel finished exhaust cover, remote key fob, anti-theft alarm and the digital dash. The Rockstar edition is available in 2 colours including blazing black as well as heavy metallic red.
The Centuro Rockstar will be powered by the same 106.7cc MCi-5 engine that produces 8.5 BHP of power and 8.5 Nm of torque, paired to a 4-speed gearbox. The bike gets telescopic front forks, while the rear gets a 5-step adjustable rear suspension for passenger comfort. Mahindra claims an ARAI certified fuel efficiency of 85 km/l on the Centuro and is also offering the motorcycle with a 5-year warranty as standard.
As Mahindra puts it, the Centuro Rockstar edition will help the automaker expand its reach in the 100-110cc commuter segment as a value for money offering. The company is certainly taking the fight to more established products which include the new TVS Star City+, Hero Splendor, Bajaj Discover 100M and Honda CD 110 Dream in the country’s most popular two-wheeler segment. The automaker is also expected to launch a premium version of the Centuro later this year, equipped with a front disc brake.
