Maruti Suzuki will be making a grand comeback to the C-segment sedan space with the upcoming Ciaz sedan. With the C-segment space a consistent performer for most automakers, Maruti too is making sure to equip the Ciaz with all the right ingredients to make the model an instant hit. Showcased as a concept at the 2014 Auto Expo in February this year, the Ciaz will also be sold in China christened as the Alivio and is scheduled for launch in the coming weeks. Now, these new spy shots of the undisguised China spec Ciaz reveal all the necessary details of the sedan, ahead of the official launch.
The China spec Suzuki Alivio or Ciaz gets a complete 4-slat chrome grille, while the sweptback headlamp cluster feature projector lights as standard on all variants. The side is rather simple but boasts of strong character lines, while the rear gets wraparound tail lights that have a very strong resemblance to the ones found on the new Honda City. Suzuki has used chrome in abundance on the sedan which extends to the front bumper, door handles as well as the rear boot-lid. Measuring 4545 mm in length, the Ciaz will be one of the longest sedans in its class offering a roomy cabin.
As seen in the pictures, there has been greater emphasis on rear seat comfort and the Maruti Ciaz offers an almost flat floor for better legroom. The interiors have been finished in dual-tone shades with wood inserts and chrome accents to complete the premium look. You also get rear air-con vents, while a centre arm rest is also included with cup holders. Suzuki will be offering a host of features on the top-end variants of the Ciaz with the equipment list including 16-inch alloy wheels, start-stop system, automatic climate control, multi-function steering wheel, improved infotainment system and much more.
In India, the Maruti Suzuki Ciaz will be powered by the 1.4-litre K-Series petrol motor from the Ertiga , paired to a 5-speed manual and a CVT automatic transmission. Diesel duties on the other hand will be performed by the 1.3-litre DDiS engine sourced from Fiat, mated to only a 5-speed manual transmission. Suuzki had earlier stated that the Ciaz has been tuned to offer better rear seat comfort as well as impressive handling compared to its predecessor. In terms of safety too, the Ciaz will get dual front airbags, ABS with EBD as standard. The C-segment Maruti will be available in a total of six variants, three for each engine option.
