Polaris owned legendary two-wheeler maker Indian Motorcycle has revealed the all new 2015 Indian Scout, a modern iteration of one of the more popular and iconic motorcycles from the classic era at the 2014 Sturgis Motorcycle Rally in the US. Priced at $10,999 (Rs. 6.73 lakhs), the all new Scout has made a comeback after 70 long years to Indian Motorcycle’s lineup and is an interpretation of contemporary yet classic styling that comes with a modern heart for the world of today.
Based on the legendary Scouts from the early 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s, Indian states that the new engines and classic design cues on the 2015 Indian Scout honour both form and function. The motorcycle has been designed from scratch and includes a classic ‘rigid triangle’ design that aids a visual connection to the original Scout motorcycles. The tank has a bold and rustic feel to it, and compliments well to the overall laid back styling. The motorcycle’s wheelbase stretches to 1562 mm with a ground clearance of 134 mm and a low seat height of 643 mm that should appeal to riders of all sizes with much ease.
With a maximum lean angle of 31-degrees and low centre of gravity, Indian states that the Scout provides exceptional high and low speed manoeuvrability. The manufacturer has used cast aluminium frame for rigidity and weight savings on the 2015 Scout and the motorcycle weighs a healthy 253 kgs and is claimed to be the lightest in its class. Ride and handling is further aided by the monotube rear shocks which keeps the ride smooth. The Scout also gets a premium tan leather solo bucket seat, making Indian the only manufacturer to offer this seating as standard.
The 2015 Scout is powered by an 1133cc liquid-cooled, 60-degree V-twin, DOHC, 4-valves per cylinder engine that has been developed in-house by Polaris for enhanced durability and reliability. The company states that the new engine is a modern design unit with closed-loop fuel injection and ride-by-wire throttle and is paired to a 6-speed transmission unit. In terms of power output, Indian claims that the engine is able to produce 100 HP at 8100 RPM and 97.8 Nm of torque at 5900 RPM.
Indian says that the low seat height, lightweight design and a powerful engine will make the 2015 Scout appealing to riders of all sizes and experience levels. The Scout comes with the colour options of Thunder Black, Indian Motorcycle Red as well as Silver Smoke and Thunder Black Smoke that are finished in matte and is expected to go on sale in the US by the end of the year. The 2015 Indian Scout will be primarily competing against the Harley-Davidson Sportster 1200 Custom that is also available in the same price bracket. Indian has commenced pre-orders for the motorcycle on its website in the US and the motorcycle is expected to be launched in India in the near future.
