The Skoda Superb has always been favoured for its generous cabin space, overwhelming build quality and a host of equipment on offer that could even put a luxury sedan to shame. Taking a step further in the same direction, the Czech based automaker is all set to create a new benchmark in cabin space with the next generation Superb that will go on sale next year globally. The 2016 Skoda Superb will be even more spacious than the outgoing model, without being any longer.
The current generation Skoda Superb measures 4833 mm in length and offers 595-litres of boot space, or 1700-litres with the rear seats down. While retaining the same length, the saloon will get a longer wheelbase and will most certainly offer better cabin and boot space than the outgoing version. Taking cues from the VisionC concept, the new Superb grows wider for a sporty and dynamic look, while the height will be the same at 1462 mm. Expect to see a lower coupe-like sloping roofline though and a pronounced side profile around the wheels for more presence. Skoda will drop the current hatchback style opening tail gate (which also opens like a regular boot) for cost reasons.
The 2016 Skoda Superb shares its underpinnings with the 2015 Volkswagen Passat that was unveiled earlier this month. Based on the MQB platform, expect several features from the new Passat to be available on the Superb including the use of high-tensile strength steel and aluminium in the construction of the saloon. In terms of engine options, the new Superb is most likely to ditch the V6 engines in favour of 4-cylinder units to power the whole line-up. The new 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo diesel motor producing 240 PS that debuted on the 2015 Passat could also be on offer, while a hybrid version is also said to be in the works.
Apart from the 2016 Superb, Skoda Auto is working on the next generation Fabia hatchback that will make its global debut in October this year at the Paris Motor Show. The automaker is also working on a new SUV positioned above the Yeti that will go on sale in 2016. In India, Skoda refreshed the Superb earlier this year with comprehensive styling updates and the car continues to be favoured in the premium sedan segment for its potent diesel engines and the very spacious and comfortable rear seats.
