Recall is the mantra of the year 2014. Right from American giant GM to Japanese biggies such as Toyota, who keep on doing it. Quality control has definitely gone for a toss or probably companies have gone more honest by admitting to problems in their vehicles and take due care to rectify it. Still, it feels like recalling has become a fashion these days like coloured pants for manufacturers. How could American motorcycle manufacturer Harley-Davidson be left behind.
Harley-Davidson is recalling 66,000 units of its Touring and Touring CVO motorcycles around the world because of a clamp for the brake line was not welded and hence the brake line tends to run loose on impact with other parts such as the tank and the frame. The line can choke the fluid in the braided line and cause the front wheel to lock-up. This is the only reason why ABS bikes are bought, to avoid this particular factor. However, even the ABS equipped motorcycle tends to have this problem. As you can imagine, this is quite a serious affair for a motorcyclist and Harley-Davidson is taking it seriously too.
We are sure there are a few of these motorcycles in the Indian market before local assembly began as they would have come in the market as a CBU. If you know anybody owning these bikes, please inform these fellow motorcyclists about this recall. Still the company states no Indian units are affected. Anyways, most huge Harley-Davidson motorcycles in India lie idle in the garage but still. Harley-Davidson will be obviously doing this free of cost (replacing the brake line and securing it from getting pinched) but this procedure won’t be as quick an affair to rectify.
