Mercedes-Benz India has launched the A-Class and B-Class ‘Edition 1’ special edition models with added kit, priced at Rs. 26.17 lakhs and Rs. 28.75 lakhs (ex-showroom, Mumbai) respectively. The new Edition 1 models pack in a host of goodies on the diesel variants of the A-Class and B-Class that now come with a special exterior badging, improved ride quality and new entertainment features for the rear passengers (only on the B-Class). Only 100 units of each cars will be sold with three colours offered – red, silver and white.
Changes on the Edition 1 models are most evident on the side of the car. The Mercedes A-Class and B-Class get black decals with Edition 1 lettering extend on the side skirts on both the models. The diesel powered cars now come with a panoramic sunroof which makes the cabin appear roomier. The A-Class also comes with new 17-inch alloy wheels that feature a dull grey finish thereby adding a sporty appeal to the car, whereas the B-Class now gets new 5-spoke alloy wheels that look more attractive than the 10-spoke alloys found on the regular Mercedes B-Class. The ORVMs have been finished in a black gloss paint job on the Edition 1 models.
Step inside the cabin and the changes to the A-Class and B-Class get extensive. The equipment list now features some noteworthy additions which include a reversing camera, electrically adjustable front passenger seat and a rear centre arm rest. The A-Class instrument cluster has also been mildly tweaked which now gets a gear shift indicator with an Eco mode indicator. The B-Class Edition 1 on the other hand also gets new equipment on boar and now comes with a rear entertainment system which comprises of two screens mounted on the front head rests.
Mercedes has also worked on the suspension setup on the A-Class and B-Class Edition 1, which has been tweaked for a softer ride quality. This has also resulted into increased ground clearance only marginally, which is always welcome considering the kind of roads in our country. The raised height however, does not affect the dynamics on either models. The powertrain also remains the same on both the cars and uses the same 2.2-litre engine that produces 107 HP of power and 250 Nm of torque.
Mercedes India has commenced the bookings of the Edition 1 models with deliveries to begin soon across the country. Owing to the diesel demand in our country, it was the diesel variants that brought in the volumes, but were not equally equipped as their petrol counterparts. The Edition 1 limited edition model however addresses that issue making the A-Class and B-Class a lucrative purchase in the compact luxury segment.
