The very popular 110cc scooter segment is seeing much of activity lately with the new set of launches. After Suzuki entering this segment with the Let’s scooter, Mahindra will make its debut later this year with an all new 110cc scooter that was spied on test in Lonavala, Maharashtra recently. Overdrive reader Rohan Takalkar snapped the new scooter along with the a Centuro equipped with front disc brake on test, and the images reveal new details about both the two-wheelers.
Starting with the new scooter, the two-wheeler will get a unisex design on the lines of the TVS Jupiter and Honda Activa to cater to a wider audience. The spy shots revealed vertically stacked turn indicators at the front, while the front apron with the air vents was reminiscent of yesteryear’s Kinetic Blaze power scooter. The scooter also gets an analogue instrument console in a semi circular design, while a small digital display has been added at the right hand side corner. The scooter is expected to get an open glove box at the front and gets a flat floor board.
Power for the 110cc Mahindra scooter is expected to come from the 106.7cc single-cylinder, air-cooled engine from the Centuro, producing 8.5 PS of power at 7500 RPM and 8.5 Nm of torque, paired to a variomatic transmission. The scooter is expected to claim a fuel efficiency of around 60 km/l. While the new scooter was expected to be unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo, the launch will now be in August this year.
Also spotted on test was the Centuro 110cc motorcycle that is now equipped with a front disc brake. Mahindra’s bread and butter model, the update on the Centuro comes a year after the launch and will be the third variant in the motorcycle’s line-up called O1-D, other variants being O1 and N1. The front disc brake is a petal shaped type, while other specifications will be the same. The Centuro has seen a fair share of success since its launch in the past year.
The Mahindra Centuro comes with loads of features, most of them being a segment first. The commuter motorcycle gets semi-digital instrument cluster, engine immobiliser, anti-theft alarm, distance to empty meter, follow me home lamps and much more. The Centuro is also fuel efficient returning an ARAI certified milrage of 85.4 km/l. Expect the O1-D to be priced at around Rs. 48,000 (ex-showroom) when launched in the coming months. It was showcased at the 2014 Auto Expo earlier this year.
