Ducati has just unveiled the first official pictures and information of the new Monster 821 in the international markets. The Ducati Monster 821 is all set to replace the ageing Monster 796. As you can imagine, this is Ducati’s volume segment bike and it is getting all the possible hype. The Ducati Monster 821 was first spied in March 2014 while coming out of a trailer for an advertisement shoot by the lads in the UK. The Monster 821 Dark is displayed here in Dark Stealth colour which includes a black frame and black wheels. Meanwhile, other colours are the obvious red with black wheels and red frame. A star white silk with red frame and matte red wheels will also be offered.
The Ducati Monster 821 uses the same steel trellis chassis as the Monster 1200 but is powered by the 821cc 11° V-twin Testastretta engine from the Hypermotard, tuned for 112 BHP and 89.3 Nm of torque, weighing 179.5 kgs dry. Ducati has given top shelf brakes, excellent suspension and comfortable ergonomics to the Monster this time. The Monster 821 also gets adjustability for seat height. In terms of electronics, the 821cc Monster gets a 8-level traction control system, 3-level ABS adjustability and 3-levels of Ride-by-Wire (power modes) all of which are easily accessible by a push of a button on the left-hand switchgear.
The Ducati Monster 821 will be made available to restricted license holders in European countries with the specially detuned versions. 34 PS for Switzerland and 47.5 PS (KTM Duke 390 anyone?) for other countries where these rules are applied. The Ducati Monster 821 will be competing against the freshly baked Yamaha MT-09, Kawasaki Z800, Triumph Street Triple and the MV Agusta Rivale 800 globally. Pricing worldwide is expected to be around Rs. 10 lakhs. Expect this Monster to come to India when Ducati officially comes to India next year, a year before BMW officially enters the market.
