Japanese auto major Suzuki will be presenting its second crossover product in the emerging compact SUV segment globally after the S-Cross in the next couple of years. Based on the iV-4 concept showcased last year at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the upcoming compact SUV was spotted on test for the first time doing rounds in Germany. Positioned to compete against the Nissan Juke and the Renault Captur internationally, the test mule sported several similarities to the iV-4 concept.
The iV-4 Concept measures 4.2 metres in length and 1.7 metres in height and the production model spotted on test measures on similar lines as well. The test mule sported a similar silhouette retained from the concept. The similarities extend to the headlamp cluster, front grille and bumper; the side profile and glasshouse area and the rear tail lights as well. While the test vehicle was heavily camouflaged, we could understand the rear bumper to have been changed for a more practical unit, than seen on the concept. Expect to see a production ready version of the 5-bar grille to dawn the front fascia of the compact SUV.
Internationally, the compact SUV is expected to be powered by the 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engine options from the S-Cross, that produce around 118 BHP of power respectively. The production model will also get AllGrip four-wheel drive system from the S-Cross and will be manufactured at Suzuki’s Hungary plant for the European market.
For the Indian version though, if Suzuki does plan to get the iV-4 based compact SUV, expect the SUV to be tucked under the 4-metre mark to compete against the likes of the Ford EcoSport in the segment, while the S-Cross would play in the premium end of the segment. However, it is still unclear as to when Suzuki will bring the iV-4 based SUV to India. The production ready model is expected to be revealed at the Paris Motor Show later this year. It could replace the Grand Vitara in Suzuki’s SUV line-up.
