Bajaj Auto’s next big product to hit the market will be the Pulsar 200 SS, a full faired version of the 200 NS and while speculations were rife that the 200 SS will see a year end launch, the Pune based manufacturer seems to have planned otherwise and might launch the motorcycle as early as next month. These recent spy shots from Aneesh Satheendran on Fly-wheel.com capture the 200 SS at a dealer stock yard sans any camouflage.
While Bajaj has not announced a launch date for the Pulsar 200 SS yet, the motorcycle could be launched before the KTM RC 390 that is scheduled for launch in July. The dealer dispatch could most likely be for sales and service training purposes. Based on the flagship Pulsar 200 NS, the styling on the 200 SS is a major leap from the current generation models and has been made to look like a baby SS 400 sporting an aggressive stance. The 200 SS sports a full faired design with sharp lines, twin projector headlamps, split-seats and a prominent looking redesigned tail light cluster that gets LEDs.
The Bajaj Pulsar 200 SS is expected to share the powertrain with the 200 NS. The 200cc liquid-cooled engine produces 23.17 BHP of power and 18.3 NM of torque, mated to a 6-speed transmission. The full faired model will get a digital instrument console, clip-on handlebars, monoshock suspension like its naked sibling. Bajaj could also offer ABS as optional on the 200 SS. Unlike the 200 NS, the bike gets a proper exhaust instead of the underbelly unit.
There was also a speculation that the Pulsar 200 SS could get fuel injection, however, it remains to be seen whether the FI system makes it to the production model (which will result in additional power). The 200 SS will also be priced at a marginal premium over the 200 NS at around Rs. 35,000/- more when launched, putting the on-road Mumbai price to almost Rs. 1.40 lakhs. The 200 SS will be locking horns with the Yamaha YZF-R15 and the Honda CBR150R in the segment. Expect Bajaj Auto to make a formal announcement of the launch date soon.
