Tata Motors has launched its entry-level utility vehicle, the new Movus in the country. Not to be confused as a new product, the Movus is essentially a rebranded Sumo Grande UV with comprehensive changes and will be available in two variants namely the CX and LX models. Tata promises a spacious cabin, optimum performance and low running costs. With the wheelbase measuring in at 2550 mm, the Movus comes with three rows of seating, available with 7, 8 or 9-seater configurations and flexible seating options.
Powering the Tata Movus is the 2.2-litre VARICOR diesel engine that has been tuned to produce 120 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. Tata claims that the Movus provides the best in segment pick-up and mileage, with the fuel efficiency rated at 15.15 km/l. The UV comes with double wishbone and coil springs in the front and parabolic leaf spring-type suspension for the rear. It can tackle uneven road surfaces with great ease. The Movus also gets a new rack and pinion steering system and a new 260 mm diameter concentric sleeve cylinder with self actuating clutch for improved reliability.
The Tata Movus is also lighter than the current Sumo Grande, which has resulted in improved fuel efficiency and drivability. The UV comes with a ground clearance of 180 mm and a fuel tank capacity of 65 litres. Tata Motors states that the Movus is a great proposition for large families as it is spacious, easy to maintain, economical for both short and long distances, delivering great value without compromising on comfort while also offering best-in-class ride quality.
The Tata Movus has been priced at Rs. 6.99 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi) and the company is also providing an engine warranty of three years or 1,50,000 kms to make sure the UV has the lowest cost of operations. Competing primarily with the segment best seller Mahindra Bolero, the Movus is commercially available across metros and select cities. It is offered in two colour options namely porcelain white and meteor silver.
