Honda’s racing arm Mugen has come out with a special concept version prototype of the fourth generation City that made its world premiere at the SMX Convention centre in Pasay city in Philippines. The Honda City Mugen prototype was unveiled showcasing visual upgrades to the car for a sporty appeal. The company stated that with Mugen accessories applied to the all new City, the sedan has been made sportier and aggressive to provide excitement to Filipino customers.
The Mugen upgrade on the fourth generation Honda City VX top-end variant is purely cosmetic and does not feature any tinkering to the 1.5-litre engine that produces 120 PS and 145 Nm of torque under the hood. The visual upgrades on the City include the striking Taffeta white paintjob with Mugen colour body stripes comprising of red, gold and black across the car. Adding a sporty character to the City Mugen is the additional body kit which includes front, side and rear skirts and rear lip spoiler. Complimenting the body kit are the 17-inch, 8-spoke black alloy wheels with low profile tyres, while the ORVMs have been wrapped for a carbon fibre finish.
Mugen also stated at the premiere that it will offer engine, suspension, brakes and interior upgrades to the City in the future. The production version of the City Mugen Prototype will be available in the Philippines by the third quarter of 2014, while other countries will get the model later. Prices for the City Mugen have not been revealed as yet. In India, the Honda City has been known as more of an executive sedan, rather than a sporty offering.
In markets like South East Asia, Honda provides Mugen power parts and accessories to visually upgrade the City and other models like the Amaze, Jazz and even the Mobilio in the company’s portfolio. With the growing culture of customisation and modification in the country, should Honda offer Mugen power parts in India (it already does for some of its cars) for its products?
