While the new Sonata had always been stunning with the fluidic design sculpture, the 2015 model just gets more sophisticated in its appearance along with a wealth of new gadgetry and improved performance added to the car. The world premiere of the seventh generation Hyundai Sonata was held at its home market in South Korea in March this year and the car has now been officially launched for the US market at the New York Auto Show. Standing proudly at the Hyundai pavilion at the NY Auto Show, the Sonata gets the very sexy burnt orange colour shade, which seamlessly collaborates with Hyundai’s idea to play it low this time around with the Sonata.
The all-new seventh generation 2015 Hyundai Sonata for the US is marginally different from the South Korean version. You get chrome accents on the sides and daytime LED lights integrated into the bumper added to the US spec version. Based on the evolved Fluidic Sculpture 2.0 design philosophy, the lines are far more restrained with the overall stance more athletic. The Sonata features the new trapezoidal grille, while the headlight cluster looks mature. Adding a touch of sportiness to the design is the coupe like roofline, while the rear sports quad chrome-tipped exhausts. The rear also features tapered lines, while the tail light cluster looks very premium and rather European inspired.
On the inside too, the Hyundai Sonata boasts of a sophisticated character, while adding that tad bit of flare is the flat bottom steering wheel. There is also an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment display along with USB, AUX and Bluetooth connectivity, voice recognition and smartphone integration offered as standard. Hyundai states that it has used over 51 percent of Advanced High Strength Steel in the construction of the sedan. In terms of safety, the 2015 Sonata is loaded with features such as Blind Spot Detection, Lane Departure Warning System, Advanced Smart Cruise Control, knee and side curtain airbags added to the list.
Powering the US spec version will be the same 2.4-litre 4-cylinder GDI engine producing 185 HP and 241 Nm of torque. There is also the updated 2.0-litre turbocharged GDI engine producing 245 HP and 352 Nm of torque. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed SHIFTRONIC automatic transmission. A hybrid model will join the line-up later in the life-cycle. The all-new 2015 Hyundai Sonata will be competing against the again new Toyota Camry that has been showcased at the New York Auto Show along with the Honda Accord and Volkswagen Passat in the segment. The sedan also gets certain features like Smart Cruise Control, a 400-watt Infinity premium audio system and the very innovative smart trunk feature. Sales for the 2015 Hyundai Sonata will commence in the coming months itself.
