After reviving the Datsun brand in India this year, Nissan will be officially entering into Russia for the first time with the GO based sedan developed specifically for the market. The company has revealed the first sketch of the car scheduled to be introduced on 4th April, 2014. Datsun Russia’s website also goes live today with a countdown to the official launch date. The website will be streaming live, the introduction of the new car for its online visitors.
The compact sedan won’t be restricted to the sub-4 metre mark like in India. Based on the GO, the sedan gets a longer wheelbase than the hatchback transcending into added legroom and comfort at the rear seats. The sedan has been developed with the common global philosophy of the brand to offer an engaging driving experience, peace of mind ownership and accessibility of spare parts to the customers. The styling for the car was carried out in Japan and was developed locally by an international team of engineers.
The mechanicals come from the Datsun GO with the 1.2-litre petrol engine mated to the 5-speed manual transmission that will do duty on the sedan as well. The interiors too will be carried forward from the hatchback. Datsun will reveal all the product details on the compact sedan on the 4th of April with sales ready to commence by the second half of this year. The Datsun sedan is most likely to be priced around $13,000 (Rs. 7.93 lakhs) when launched in Russia.
In India, the bookings for Datsun’s first product the GO hatchback have already commenced while the prices will be announced on 19th March. The revival of the Datsun brand was part of Nissan’s strategy to tap the A-segment in emerging countries. The compact sedan will make its way to India later to compete against the Maruti Swift Dzire, Honda Amaze, Hyundai Xcent and the likes but nothing is confirmed yet. Expect the Datsun sedan to undercut competition in terms of pricing thanks to its low cost platform.
