Volkswagen showcased the Taigun compact SUV in 2012 and that vehicle will be launched to compete against the likes of the Ford EcoSport, Nissan Terrano and Renault Duster. Now, VW has also developed a new concept which will be the basis for a new compact crossover (like we reported earlier, this is the Polo based compact SUV). When launched, this vehicle will be positioned between the Polo and Taigun. In size, the T-Roc is only slightly bigger than the Polo in terms of length. The T-Roc showcases how the German automaker’s future vehicles will look like. Volkswagen will officially showcase the T-Roc concept at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
The Volkswagen T-Roc is a 2-door concept which looks muscular and sporty. All the body panels are beefed up to give the vehicle a nice SUVish stance and to make it look bigger than it actually is. The roof comes with removable panels, however the production version might just carry a sunroof. Volkswagen has added a 12.3-inch screen behind the steering and this screen acts as the instrument panel. This screen will also display satellite navigation routes. Even the centre console comes with a touchscreen which has the ability to control various functions like phone, music, automatic climate control, etc.
The Volkswagen T-Roc is based on the new MQB platform. Powering the vehicle is a 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine churning out 181 HP of power and 380 Nm of torque. The engine is matched to a 7-speed DSG dual-clutch transmission and Volkswagen has also loaded the 4MOTION all-wheel-drive system in the T-Roc. We are sure you guys will grin when we say that this engine gives an overall fuel efficiency of 20.48 km/l. The Volkswagen T-Roc is still in the basic development stage and it will take a long time for it to actually hit the markets. We feel this vehicle will highly succeed in India and it should be the correct replacement for the Volkswagen CrossPolo.
