Maruti is developing a new 7-seater SUV that will get Vitara branding.
Maruti Suzuki has recently decided to continue selling diesel vehicles in India. Considering the fact that rivals are upgrading to BS6 compliant diesel engines, Maruti fears to lose out on market share.
In a bid to retain the huge chunk of market share, Maruti Suzuki is coming up with a range of new products. One of them is a 7-seater SUV with three-row seating.
This 7-seater SUV is likely to get the Vitara branding. It is expected to be based on the Heartect platform. It will be powered by a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine and 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine.
The 7-seater Maruti SUV is likely to be launched by 2021. It will compete with the likes of 7-seater version of Hyundai Creta, 6-seater Hector and the likes.
The Vitara branding is currently used in three cars such as the international spec Vitara, which is a Creta sized SUV, then the Grand Vitara that was launched in India long time back and then the Vitara Brezza that is currently being sold in India.
