The Hero Splendor iSmart is the world’s most fuel efficient motorcycle in the country returning 102.5 km/l as per the iCAT tests.
Just days ago we told you about the Splendor iSmart returning an overwhelming fuel efficiency figure of 102.5 km/l and now Hero MotoCorp has issued a press release confirming the same while also stating that seven of the top 10 fuel-efficient motorcycles in India come from the manufacturer. As per the latest fuel efficiency values (March 2015), the Hero Splendor iSmart was certified by the iCAT (International Centre for Automotive Technology) as the most fuel efficient bike in the world.
The Splendor iSmart comes equipped with the i3S (Idle Stop and Start System) technology that automatically shuts down the engine when idling and can be turned on again by simply pressing the clutch, thereby reducing fuel wastage and is a major boon in congested traffic congestion. The iSmart is the only motorcycle to feature this technology and being a commuter, it is also easily available to the masses. The Splendor iSmart is based on the regular Splendor with power coming from the same 100cc air-cooled engine producing 7.8 PS at 7500 RPM and 8.4 Nm of torque at 4500 RPM, paired to a 4-speed gearbox.
While the Hero Splendor iSmart topped the list posting the highest mileage, it was Bajaj’s recently launched Platina ES 100 that came in second returning 96.9 km/l. In addition, other Hero models to make it on the list were the Splendor Pro and Splendor Pro Classic returning a figure of 93.21 km/l apart from the Splendor NXG, HF Dawn, HF Deluxe and HF Deluxe Eco. Bajaj Discover 100 took the fifth spot with a figure of 90.3 km/l while the TVS Star Sport Duralife came in tenth returning 87.7 km/l on the list.
