Honda Motor India is all set to launch 6 new cars here by 2020.
As Honda draws its plans for the next 3 years, it is all set to bring six new models (facelifts not included) to the country. While there are speculations running as to what cars will make it to India, it has been confirmed that all the six models will be assembled in India.
Honda’s majority investments with regards to the six new models will be going towards improving the local content in the cars. In that case, one can expect the new-generation Civic and also the CR-V to make it to India. The company will also launch the new generation Amaze which is a global model.
Speaking at a press conference at the Tokyo Motor Show, Takahiro Hachigo, CEO of Honda Motor Co. Ltd said “Honda has no plans to bring in battery electric vehicles to India yet but will certainly consider bringing in more hybrid vehicles to India. Of the 6 new models coming to India in the next 3 years, we are considering hybrids too but cannot confirm anything right now. Hybrids are more sensible, more usable and the strategy depends on what customers can use and not what the government dictates.”
Talking of 2020, Honda said it is also aligning its strategies with the BS6 emission norms but is unclear about the Government’s electrification strategy. Honda hasn’t yet decided on an electric car for India but has drawn a plan for the global markets. 65 percent of the cars from Honda’s stable will be electric by 2030 and 50 percent of the portfolio will be hybrids. The automaker will continue to work on petrol engines to make them more efficient rather than battery EVs.
