With new generation models all set to take their place, auto companies are ready to pull the plug on these once popular offerings in the Indian market this year.
In the process of evolution, it is mandatory that the older beings die and make way for the more evolved ones. While that has been the case for nature since inception, it also implies to the automotive world that has sacrificed older models in favour of newer ones. With icons like the Maruti 800 and the Hyundai Santro having ceased production last year, 2015 will bid farewell to some of the once popular cars that found homes across the country but are now replaced by new and more advanced models. Here are the 6 cars that will be moving out of showrooms this year –
6) & 5) Tata Vista and Manza – With the highly appreciated (not in terms of sales though) Bolt and Zest finally here, it is time Tata Motors bid adieu to the Vista and Manza models from its lineup that are clearly dated and have been cannibalised by their newer siblings in the same segment. With the Kite twins also set to hit the market, it only makes sense that Tata closes the chapter on these slow-selling cars in its lineup as it plans to move towards a profitable future.
4) Tata Grande/Movus – While the first generation Tata Sumo did garner sales as a boxy people mover, the more recent variations of the MUV failed to attract any attention with sales figures taking a nose dive. As part of its massive product reshuffling strategy, Tata Motors will discontinue the Grande/Movus models in India. The company is producing these models in order to exhaust the stock inventory at some of its vendors and the last batch will be produced by August this year.
3) Maruti Suzuki Ritz – With the underpinnings of the Swift, the Maruti Suzuki Ritz (Splash internationally) was always a spirited performer and has been decently selling well despite no major updates over the years. However, with the model already discontinued internationally (replaced by the Celerio), Maruti will cease production of the Ritz in India this year making way for the Celerio diesel while it also has the more premium YRA hatchback in the works.
2) Ford Fiesta Classic – One of the best driver friendly cars out there, the previous generation Fiesta was too good to be layed off just like that and Ford did the wise thing by rebadging it as ‘Classic’ and continued to sell the same minus a few features. With the new Figo Aspire all set to take its place, the outgoing Classic will cease production this month, making way for the new compact sedan that will arrive in showrooms soon.
1) Ford Figo – Ford India’s highly successful model in recent times, the outgoing Figo will be discontinued soon and will make way for the next generation model internationally known as the ‘Ka’ hatchback featuring a premium new design language and more powerful petrol and diesel engine options. The new generation Figo is scheduled for launch in the next 6 months and will be produced at the automaker’s new Sanand facility.
