The 5834 units involve the previous generation Corolla Altis models and need replacement of components that lead to the entry of engine oil in the air intake system.
As part of its global recall exercise, Toyota India has recalled 5834 units of the Corolla Altis diesel sedan in India to replace the components contributing to engine oil entry in the air intake system. The recall involves the previous generation Corolla Altis manufactured between 15th June 2010 and 23rd May 2011 in the country. The recall has been initiated as per Toyota’s customer first policy and is in accordance with SIAM’s voluntary code on vehicle recall.
As part of the recall process, Toyota dealerships across the country will get in touch with the customers directly via phone or letter, with the necessary repairs to be carried out on the affected vehicles free of cost. The automaker also clarified that no complaints regarding the issue were received in India so far, while no other model from its lineup has been affected. Customers will be informed on time taken for the completion of repairs at the time of customer communication, the Japanese manufacturer said in the official statement.
Last year too Toyota India had issued a recall for the Corolla Altis diesel in particular, with issues relating to the driveshaft. In October 2012 as well, the company has recalled 8700 units of the the Corolla Altis and Camry models to replace faulty power window switches. In terms of powertrain, the previous generation Toyota Corolla Altis diesel uses the same the 1.4-litre D4-D diesel engine powering the outgoing model and is tuned to produce 88 PS of power and 205 Nm of torque, paired to a 6-speed gearbox. So much for Toyota cars offer bullet proof reliability!
