The top selling cars in November 2017 chart sees the Maruti Alto regaining the coveted number 1 spot.
November is generally a dry month for the automotive industry and a look at the above chart shows. Except for Maruti’s top six players and some other cars here and there, every other car on the list has posted a negative growth in sales. The above list is self-explanatory so let’s talk about the other cars that aren’t on the list and also about the new cars that were launched in November.
Starting with the Czech car manufacturer Skoda, the Kodiaq already outsells its platform partner the Volkswagen Tiguan. The Kodiaq sold 267 units as opposed to 60 units of the Tiguan. The Rapid still continues to rake in the numbers for the automaker with sales of 874 units while the Octavia and the Superb sold 263 and 101 units respectively. American carmaker Jeep has turned the tables for FCA in India. The Compass is consistently selling over 2000 units and pretty soon could make it to the top selling list as well. Jeep sold 2828 units of the Compass while Fiat’s Punto and Linea managed to sell just 60 and 12 units respectively.
German carmaker Volkswagen sold a total of 3426 units with Polo (1525 units) and Ameo (1348 units) managing to contribute over half of that number. The newly launched Passat sold just 33 units. Datsun’s redi-GO and GO+ contribute 2199 and 527 units to Nissan’s overall sales of 3976 units. Nissan’s own Micra hatchback, Sunny sedan and Terrano SUV sold 566, 208 and 124 units respectively in November 2017.
The newly launched Ford EcoSport seems to be on a roll and has taken the American carmaker’s total sales to 7777 units as opposed to 4218 units in October 2017. The Figo and Aspire sold 599 and 1151 units respectively while the Endeavour managed to sell 549 units. While the Kwid continues to rake in the numbers for Renault, the newly launched Captur crossover’s sales were quite disappointing. We will have to wait and see (probably for another 2-3 months) as to how will the crossover perform in the Indian market. The Captur sold 1119 units while the Duster sold 798 units.
Japanese automaker Honda lost its fifth spot to Toyota by selling a total of 11,819 units as opposed to Toyota’s 12,734 units. The City sold 3315 units while the Jazz and Amaze sold 2039 and 1976 units respectively. The Innova continues to back Toyota’s sales while the Fortuner and Etios sold 2271 and 2116 units respectively in November 2017.
Homegrown automaker, Mahindra sold a total of 14,572 units with the KUV100, TUV300 and XUV500 contributing 2190, 2135 and 1229 units respectively. Mahindra has a slew of car launches planned for the upcoming year including the facelifted XUV500, Tivoli-based SUV and an MPV. With these new cars, Mahindra might soon become the third largest selling carmaker.
The Nexon is already the second best selling car for Tata in India. The automaker reported sales of 2564, 764 and 1003 units for the Tigor, Hexa and Zest respectively. The Safari managed to find 217 homes in November 2017. Being top players in the market, Maruti and Hyundai boast of 53 percent and 16 percent market share in the total industry sales with sales of 1,44,297 and 44,008 units respectively. The top six Maruti cars already sell in five digits, while the Baleno and Swift outsell the Elite i20 and Grand i10. The Ciaz took away the best-selling mid-size sedan trophy from the Verna last month.
