2400 Mitsubishi Cedia Recalled In India For Airbag Issue

Mitsubishi Cedia

The Mitsubishi Cedia has been recalled in India with 2400 units affected by an airbag issue. The company is doing the recall due to supplier Takata.

Mitsubishi stopped selling the Lancer Cedia in India a few years back

Mitsubishi has almost no presence in India in spite of having the first mover advantage as it entered the country in the 1990s. The Japanese automaker isn’t slow just in India but also in other parts of the world where they have taken ridiculous decisions like the axing of popular models like the Lancer Evolution and putting on hold the next generation Pajero/Montero. The company only sells one model in India, the Pajero Sport and sales of the vehicle are quite low with just 58 units sold last month.

Mitsubishi had a few cars on sale at one time including the Lancer, Cedia, Pajero and Montero but slowly all of them were discontinued. The Lancer has great heritage and is a car which many people love for its styling, handling and scope of modifications. The Cedia was a newer generation of the Lancer but Mitsubishi failed to bring in the next generation model. Yes, their partner Hindustan Motors is to be blamed too for the poor performance of the Japanese brand in the country. The recall activity will commence from 25th January 2016 which is today.

Mitsubishi has now announced a recall of 2400 units of the Cedia, manufactured between 2006 to 2008. This recall is being undertaken due to airbag supplier Takata and many other brands have had to replace airbags in very old vehicles due to the supplier’s fault. The issue pertains to the passenger side airbag inflator and the fix will be done at the dealer for no cost.

The Mitsubishi Cedia was offered with a single engine, that too petrol. The 2.0-litre mill generated 115 PS of power and 175 Nm of torque, matched to a 5-speed gearbox. The vehicle came equipped with a slew of features including a touch-screen audio system with navigation, Android car-pad, 3G capabilities, DVD player and a reverse parking camera. Sales of the Cedia were dismal due to the poor marketing and reach of the Mitsubishi brand.
