2025 Nissan Patrol revealed with sharper styling elements and 3.5-litre V6 engine
After a long wait of 14 years, Nissan has officially introduced the all-new Patrol, marking a significant update to this iconic model. The new-generation Patrol, codenamed Y63, is set to go on sale globally later this year, with plans to market it as the Nissan Armada in North America. This launch brings a host of new features, a refreshed design and advanced technology to the table, positioning the Patrol as a strong competitor in the full-size SUV segment.
Fresh Design and Rugged Appeal
The 2024 Nissan Patrol sports a more angular and rugged design compared to its predecessor, embracing a boxier silhouette that enhances its off-road persona. At the front, the SUV features a wide, piano black grille flanked by vertically aligned headlamps with an E-shaped LED DRL pattern. A thin chrome bar connects the headlamps, sitting above the chrome-finished grille, while the front bumper draws design cues from the Range Rover with a horizontally positioned air dam.
The side profile of the new Patrol reveals a blend of angular and rounded surfaces, with a large glasshouse that emphasises its stature as a full-size SUV. The rear section includes an upright tailgate with rounded edges, vertically positioned tail lamps connected by a horizontal LED light bar and a tall rear bumper with unique faux aluminium inserts.
A Tech-Laden Interior
Inside, the new Patrol offers a blend of premium materials and advanced technology. The cabin, which accommodates three rows of seating, features soft-touch materials, faux brushed aluminium trim, and multiple upholstery options depending on the variant. Central to the interior’s modern aesthetic are two 14.3-inch displays—one serving as the digital instrument cluster and the other as the infotainment screen.
Nissan has replaced the traditional gear selector with a set of buttons on the center console, placed beneath the HVAC controls. Additionally, a rotary selector for terrain modes is positioned next to these controls, which are designed for easy operation, even while wearing gloves.
Top variants of the Patrol come equipped with a 12-speaker Klipsch premium sound system, rear entertainment screens, and a range of convenience features including wireless charging, USB-C ports in all rows, a head-up display, and gesture control for the infotainment system.
Powerful and Capable
Under the hood, the new Patrol is powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine, delivering 425 HP and 700 Nm of torque. This engine is paired with a 9-speed automatic gearbox and comes with full-time four-wheel drive. The powertrain represents a significant upgrade, offering more power than the previous generation’s 5.6-litre V8 engine and outpacing competitors like the Toyota Land Cruiser 300’s diesel engine.
The Patrol Y63 is built on an evolved version of the previous Y62 platform, featuring adaptive air suspension in higher variants. The SUV also comes with selectable terrain modes, including Standard, Sand, Rock, Mud, Eco and Sport, catering to a variety of driving conditions.
The Off-Road Specialist: Pro-4X Variant
Nissan has introduced an off-road-focused Pro-4X variant of the Patrol, initially targeting the North American market. This variant is equipped with 20-inch all-terrain tires, adaptive air suspension, a metal skid plate and a rear electronic-locking differential. The Pro-4X is designed to handle tough off-road conditions, with improved ground clearance and enhanced approach, departure and breakover angles. This variant positions the Patrol as a direct rival to rugged models like the Land Cruiser 300 GR.
Potential Indian Launch
Nissan has previously evaluated the Patrol Y62 for the Indian market but ultimately decided against launching it. However, with the new Y63, there is renewed potential for the Patrol to compete against established models like the Toyota Land Cruiser 300 in India, should Nissan decide to bring it to the country.
The new Nissan Patrol represents a significant leap forward for the brand, combining modern design, advanced technology and robust performance to appeal to a global audience. Whether on urban roads or challenging terrains, the Patrol is equipped to deliver a versatile and commanding driving experience.
