Mercedes-Benz India will launch the new E-Class (V214) in the coming weeks to replace the current V213 generation of this luxury sedan. The E is a very important product for the brand since it has always been one of their best sellers. The new E-Class will go up against the recently launched new BMW 5-Series G68.
The Mercedes E-Class will be offered in the E200 and E220d variants in India as of now. Globally, the German automaker offers other variants like E350, E450, E450d, etc. too. The E200 gets the same M254 engine making 204 HP and 320 Nm while the E220d gets the OM654 engine making 197 HP and 440 Nm. Both the engines get a 9G-TRONIC transmission.
While the prices haven’t been announced yet, the brand has indicated that the E will cost anywhere between Rs. 80-83 lakh ex-showroom. The 5-Series costs Rs. 72.90 lakh ex-showroom in comparison. However, looking at the pleasant surprise that Mercedes gave with the pricing of the EQS Maybach recently (2.50 Cr indicated vs 2.25 Cr actual), we expect the E to get a similar treatment too.
Deliveries of a few units of the new E-Class will begin by Diwali itself to lure buyers during the festive season. The E-Class V214 is much better than the outgoing generation in many ways. It gets added tech, better quality materials and feels even closer to the E-Class.
Starting off with the rear seats, you get comfort headrests, comfort armrest, extendable seat base, electric sunblinds and of course a whole lot of space for you to relax. The vehicle gets a 17-speaker Burmester audio system along with 3rd gen MBUX and a bunch of massive screens on the dashboard.
The V214 is 13 mm taller and 14 mm longer than the V213. The wheelbase has also gone up by 15 mm. The vehicle also gets a selfie/video camera placed on the dashboard above the touchscreen for passengers’ use.
In terms of colour options, Mercedes will offer 5 exterior shades – Silver, Grey, White, Black and Dark Blue. The upholstery will get 3 colour options – Brown, Beige and Black. Mercedes will offer 18-inch wheels as standard with the new E-Class.
What do you guys think of the new E? Between this and the 5-Series, which one will you buy and why?
