2025 Bentley Continental GT Speed based on the same platform, gets drastic changes
Bentley has officially unveiled the latest iterations of its Continental GT and its convertible counterpart, the GTC. The new models, though based on the existing MSB platform, feature significant updates, particularly under the hood, which Bentley claims justify calling it a fourth generation model.
The new Continental GT maintains the classic silhouette of its predecessors but introduces a notable departure from the signature twin-headlight design. The new model features singular oval headlights with an eyelash-style LED DRL, reminiscent of the Bentley Batur. These headlights include intricate diamond patterns. The grille also sports a diamond mesh design, now accommodating a radar dome and camera setup to support the vehicle’s advanced driver assistance systems.
The long bonnet and flared rear fenders remain, complemented by standard 22-inch rims available in various designs. The active rear spoiler has been replaced with an integrated spoiler formed by a more prominently flared boot lid. The rear lights retain their elliptical shape but are slightly larger, and the high-mount stop light is integrated into the windscreen.
Inside, the Continental GT remains largely familiar, retaining signature elements like the organ stop AC vent controllers and the triple-rotating centre panel. This panel allows users to switch between analogue dials, a touchscreen or a solid surface that matches the dashboard when the car is off. The interior’s quality is exemplary, with chrome and piano black surfaces providing distortion-free reflections.
New features include an ADAS package with an ‘environmental awareness’ display that renders surrounding vehicles in real-time. The car now supports built-in apps like Spotify, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. Connectivity features also include pre-cooling or heating the cabin and seats remotely.
The Continental GT continues with a 2+2 seating layout, featuring diamond-quilted seats with ‘Speed’ embroidered on the head restraints. The interior materials are highly customisable, offering vibrant colour options like orange and green.
The significant mechanical update for the new GT is the introduction of a plug-in hybrid V8, replacing the W12 engine that has powered the Continental since 2003. The 4.0-litre V8 engine produces 600 HP and 800 Nm of torque, while the gearbox-integrated electric motor adds 190 HP and 450 Nm of torque, bringing the combined output to 782 HP and 1000 Nm. This power is delivered to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox with active torque vectoring.
The 2025 Bentley Continental GT accelerates from 0 to 100 km/hr in 3.2 seconds and reaches a top speed of 335 km/hr. An all-electric mode allows the car to reach speeds up to 160 km/hr with a range of 80 km. The braking system includes 420 mm front and 380 mm rear discs, possibly the largest cast iron brakes on any production car, while suspension duties are managed by air springs and twin-valve dampers.
The new Bentley Continental GT is expected to launch in India towards the end of this year, with an estimated price of around Rs. 5 crores (ex-showroom).
