Audi is set to debut their electric SUV prepped for proper offroading, the Q6 e-Tron. This concept is based on the SQ6 and then upgraded with a beefier suspension setup. Audi will be revealing the Q6 e-tron Prototype at this year’s World Cup event in Kitzbühel, Austria and it is expected to be an SUV which evokes emotion
Design Cues
The newly developed Q6 e-tron will be equipped with features centred around going off-road which is possible with the help of an increase in ride height of 160 mm and a 250 mm wider track. This neatly compliments the drastic styling, featuring a split-headlight setup and a prominent closed-off grille. Its rugged appearance is accentuated by wide overhangs, roof rails, etc.
Performance & Statistics
Audi says that the Q6 is an amalgamation of the learnings from the Quattro Electric Models and reimagined for the future. The new PPE (Premium Platform Electric) will feature portal axles that increase torque at the wheels by 20-30 percent, with the design boosting torque to nearly 50 percent! This development will reduce the top speed to 176 km/hr but enable the Q6 e-tron to climb gradients up to 45 degrees. In terms of power, this Q6 etron concept will produce 516hp, similar to the SQ6 during boost mode.
Portal Axles
The Audi Q6 e-tron’s much-discussed portal axles are situated in the wheelhub assemblies at the front and rear axles. These axles allow for greater suspension travel and are tuned for extremely difficult conditions. They increase the combined torque at all wheels (10-second peak) to 13,400 Nm! This means an increase of 4400 Nm.
Evolution and Market Positioning
This Q6 e-tron concept seems to be an evolution of the Audi Activesphere concept that was shown in 2022. The fans will have the chance to view the e-tron in action very soon at the F.A.T Ice Race on 1st February 2025. The Q6 e-tron takes inspiration from the likes of G550 4X4 Squared, Unimog and Hummer H1.
In summary, the Audi Q6 e-tron signifies a pivotal moment in Audi’s transition to electric mobility, offering a compelling blend of performance, design, and technology that sets a new benchmark in the offroad EV segment. However, if the Audi Q6 e-tron comes into production, its high price will make it a rich people’s toy as opposed to being utilised to its full potential.
