2024 Toyota Hilux gets cosmetic changes and updated equipment
2024 Toyota Hilux revealed for the international market, likely to launch in India soon. This marks the third consecutive facelift for the 8th generation model with a focus on enhancing its appeal and technological offerings to stay competitive, particularly against the Ford Ranger in some markets.
One of the key updates to the 2024 Hilux is its redesigned front fascia, featuring a more sculpted bumper and a new octagonal grille, which makes it look more rugged. Notably, the Australian variant of the Hilux showcases distinct styling elements compared to its Japanese and European counterparts. Trim-dependent variations include different grille and bumper finishes, with higher-spec models boasting additional features such as dark-tinted LEDs and gloss-black accents.
Under the hood, the highlight of the 2024 model is the introduction of mild-hybrid technology to the 2.8-litre diesel engine. This 48-volt system is available on select trims and incorporates an electric motor/generator and a small lithium battery, contributing to improved fuel economy and reduced noise levels. While power output remains unchanged, Toyota claims a notable enhancement in efficiency, with fuel economy gains ranging from 6-10% depending on the trim level.
In terms of equipment, the 2024 Hilux sees upgrades across various trims, with additions such as parking sensors, dual-zone automatic climate control, smart entry/start and wireless charging.
Regarding pricing, the updated Hilux lineup sees slight increases compared to the previous model year, particularly for trims equipped with the new mild-hybrid system. It is set to hit Australian showrooms in March 2024. In India, it is likely to be offered by the end of this year.
Currently in India, Toyota has announced a temporary suspension of deliveries for the Hilux along with the Innova Crysta and Fortuner as there were reports regarding irregularities in the horsepower output certification tests conducted on the diesel engines powering these models.
