In 2023, the Indian market experienced significant car launches, albeit with a noticeable trend: there were very few entirely new product introductions, with the majority being updates or facelifts. Following extensive discussions with our team and the jury, we have identified the following 2024 MotorBeam Awards winners.
Car Of The Year – Honda Elevate
Honda took some time to enter the compact SUV segment but has successfully managed to churn out good volumes with the launch of the Elevate. A value for money car with Honda’s DNA and neutral design language targeting a wide audience.
Viewers’ Choice Car Of The Year – Toyota Innova HyCross
We had set a poll on our social media pages and the Toyota Innova HyCross received the maximum votes. The new generation Innova has gathered a lot of attention in the Indian market, especially with the new strong hybrid powertrain offering performance and high fuel efficiency at the same time.
Luxury Car Of The Year – Mercedes-Benz GLC
The new generation Mercedes GLC gets radical design changes making it look sharper and more premium over its predecessor. It is available with both petrol and diesel engine options in the Indian market and is a popular choice in the luxury car segment.
Green Car Of The Year – Hyundai IONIQ 5
The Hyundai IONIQ 5 all-electric SUV is the most advanced and futuristic car in the price bracket of Rs. 50 lakhs. It is one of the most desirable EVs currently in the Indian market compared to its other rivals that are much more expensive than this.
Enthusiasts’ Car Of The Year – Maruti Jimny
The Jimny was launched in India at the 2023 Auto Expo catching eyeballs from enthusiasts. It is a unique product that Maruti introduced with an intention to cater to the off-road community rather than prioritising high volumes. It comes with 4×4 as standard and is a very capable compact SUV. Maruti Suzuki specifically re-engineered the Jimny for India by offering the 5-door version, making it more practical.
Manufacturer Of The Year – Mahindra
While Mahindra has not launched any brand new product last year, they have achieved tremendous growth in FY24 achieving best ever sales of 4,59,877 units. The sales have contributed to a drastic 28 percent year-on-year growth. They have sold around 1 lakh units more compared to the previous year. Almost all their products are spinning high volumes.
Update Of The Year – Tata Motors
Tata Motors have introduced substantial facelifts last year of the Tata Safari, Harrier and Nexon. The Indian carmaker is now offering a long list of features and much needed changes in the SUVs to keep up with the competition. They have even updated the styling to a great extent considering these are only facelifts.
