New generation MINI Cooper S all set to launch in the Indian market
MINI India has commenced bookings for the highly anticipated 2024 MINI Cooper S. Customers can now secure their bookings on the company’s official website with a token amount of Rs. 1 lakh. The launch of the new Cooper S is expected in the coming weeks.
The 2024 MINI Cooper S retains its distinctive design with some modern tweaks. While the car keeps its iconic round headlamps, they now feature a new LED pattern. The front grille has a less curvy design compared to its predecessor. The rear of the car showcases new diamond-cut alloy wheels and redesigned tail lamps with sharp LED elements, connected by a black trim featuring the car’s name.
Inside, the new Cooper S maintains its minimalistic approach but with several upgrades. The most notable is the industry-first circular touchscreen infotainment system, which measures 9.45 inches in diameter. Other updates include a modern steering wheel with the new MINI emblem and a revamped dashboard that does away with the traditional instrument cluster. The gear selector has been moved to a panel below the screen, along with the handbrake button, turn-key starter, driving mode selector and audio-control dial.
The new MINI Cooper S continues to use the 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder turbo petrol engine, now in a higher state of tune. It delivers 204 HP and 300 Nm of torque, an increase of 26 HP and 20 Nm of torque over the previous model. Power is sent to the front wheels through a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. According to MINI, the Cooper S can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/hr in 6.6 seconds.
The outgoing Cooper S is priced at Rs. 42.70 lakhs (ex-showroom) and the new model is expected to be slightly more expensive. Initially, MINI will launch the new Cooper S with a petrol powertrain only. An all-electric Cooper EV is slated for release later this year or early next year. While the Cooper S has no direct rivals, it will compete with entry-level luxury cars and SUVs in the Indian market.
