2024 Mercedes G-Class facelift gets a subtle refresh with cosmetic changes
The iconic Mercedes G-Class, known for its timeless design and off-road prowess, has undergone a subtle yet significant facelift. The latest refresh brings mild hybrid engines across the lineup along with minor styling tweaks and enhancements to its performance.
One of the key updates lies under the hood, where all models now feature mild hybrid technology. The entry-level G450d benefits from a 3.0-litre straight-six diesel engine paired with a 48-volt integrated starter generator, resulting in a power boost to 357 HP and 750 Nm of torque. Similarly, the G500 sees improvements with its 3.0-litre 6-cylinder petrol unit now delivering 436 HP.
There is a new front bumper and radiator grille refresh, while aerodynamic refinements inspired by the upcoming EQG EV model aim to enhance efficiency and reduce interior noise. The integration of a lower-mounted front-facing camera improves obstacle visibility, complemented by a new ‘transparent bonnet’ view feature.
Inside the cabin, the new G gets a sporty new steering wheel design, the latest MBUX infotainment system, complete with a touchscreen interface. Practical additions such as temperature-controlled cup holders and keyless entry further elevate the experience. Off-road enthusiasts will appreciate the revamped ‘control centre’ dashboard layout, providing easier access to essential functions.
Despite these updates, the G-Class retains its legendary off-road capabilities, boasting impressive ground clearance, fording depth and stability on inclines. Even the performance-focused AMG G63 model receives attention, with enhancements to its power delivery and the introduction of an advanced active suspension system for improved handling both on and off the road.
We can expect Mercedes to introduce the G-Class facelift in India by the end of this year. How do you like the subtle updates on the SUV? Let us know in the comments section below.
