The third generation 2024 KTM Duke 390 has been spotted for the first time in India, gets radical updates on the outside
The third generation 2024 KTM Duke 390 has been spotted on test for the first time on our roads. The naked bike gets some drastic changes this time with updates to the powertrain too. It will go on sale sometime next year.
From the spy shots, we can see that the headlight has seen slight revisions. It’s not only broader but also looks more bulgy. The instrument cluster has been mounted on top of the handlebar clamp, something we see on many high-end nakeds like the Kawasaki Zs.
The rear view mirrors have been redesigned and they are more contoured. While the tank nearly remains the same, the side scoops are not only longer but also have recesses for a sporty look. The seat looks like a single piece unit although it gets a step-up design.
However, the biggest changes are seen underneath. The bike gets a new trellis main frame and subframe that are hardly exposed now. The rear swing arm too has been changed and it features an offset suspension like many bikes with single-sided swing arm.
It seems like the underbelly exhaust from the first generation has been brought back as it was a good weight saver back then. The disc brakes look thinner and larger while the alloy spokes look like they have been taken from the second generation RCs launched now.
The 2024 Duke 390 will be powered by the same 373 cc single cylinder, 4-valve, liquid cooled, DOHC engine. As the bike has undergone some weight saving measures it could weigh lesser than the current bike’s 163 kg kerb weight.
There might also be mild updates to power and torque but KTM will focus more on rideability and refinement with updates to ECU and air intake.
Another area where KTM has worked extensively is the rider ergonomics. From the pictures of the test mule, we can make out that the ergonomics are even more comfortable now with upright seating posture and and little bit forward-set foot pegs. The rider legs can be seen tucked nicely in the tank recesses.
The naked bike might come loaded with the latest features the 2023 RC 390 got recently. They include traction control, quick shifter, lean angle sensitive cornering ABS, dual-channel ABS with Super moto mode, TFT multi-color display with KTM My Ride, power assisted anti-hopping slipper clutch (PASCTM), WP Apex USD forks, and 2-step height adjust handle bar.
