Second Generation Hyundai Kona Electric might be launched in India next year as the 2024 model
The upcoming second generation 2024 Hyundai Kona Electric SUV has been spied testing for the first time near Hyundai’s technical centre in Germany. With the first generation model already 4 years old, the SUV now craves for a generation change.
The test mule looks heavily camouflaged with most body panels fully covered. But, the camouflage cloth at the front has a small pocket for charging. There neither seems to be holes nor signs of a grille at the front confirming the electric powertrain.
At the rear, there’s no exhaust. But other than these changes, the upcoming Kona Electric is likely to share its latest styling cues with the ICE variant that’s also on tests right now across the world.
At the front, the eyebrow DRLs have been retained while the separately stacked LED headlights get a squarish design rather than the circular design on the outgoing SUV. The front bonnet lid is slightly offset from the front panel. It tucks within for a pronounced look.
At the sides, the wheel arches are quite large with a matte black finish. They are likely to offer a rugged stance. While the shape of the ORVMs is nearly the same as that of the outgoing model, the integrated turn indicators are a big plus.
The alloy wheels gets a new design with a Piano Black finish. The roof is finished in Gloss Black while the roof rails are same as that of the outgoing model. While nothing is visible at the rear, there’s a chunky crease on the tail gate connecting the tail lights.
Rest all aspects look same as the outgoing first-gen Kona including the shark-fin antenna and the parking sensors. Expect Hyundai to carry forward its Sensual Sportiness design language for the upcoming Kona which involves the use of connected LED lights.
On the inside, most of the design elements are likely to be carried forward from the Ioniq range with features like a large infotainment system and an instrument cluster, horizontal running lines on the dashboard, and animal-friendly upholstery.
While details of the powertrain are not known, expect something that sits under the Ioniq as the Kona will have an aggressive price tag. The electric car might be unveiled soon while launch might take place next year as a 2024 model. It will also hit our shores later
