2024 BMW 5-Series is expected to launch in India this festive season
The new generation G60 BMW 5-Series might soon make its debut in the Indian market by the upcoming festive season. The sighting of the 8th generation BMW 5-Series outside the Global Automotive Research Centre (GARC) in Oragadam, Chennai, has fuelled speculation regarding its imminent arrival.
The new model made its global debut last year, it will bring a host of new features and advancements to the luxury sedan segment. While initial reports hinted at the possibility of the long-wheelbase version making its way to India, observations of the spotted vehicle indicate that it might be the standard wheelbase variant.
The new gen sedan gets drastic exterior changes with sharper styling cues. Some people like the new design language and some find the outgoing version more attractive. The interior elements of the new BMW 5-Series look similar to what we have seen in the new gen 7-Series.
The BMW Curved Display comes with a 12.3-inch Information Display and a 14.9-inch Control Display. It gets the latest BMW Operating System 8.5. You can control the system using the steering buttons, touchscreen control, iDrive Controller, voice commands and even gesture controls.
Under the hood, the new 5-Series is rumoured to offer a choice between 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and diesel engine options in the Indian market. Both powertrains are expected to be complemented by a mild-hybrid system, enhancing fuel efficiency and performance. These engines will be mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission.
For eco-conscious consumers, BMW might introduce the i5 eDrive40 variant, which boasts 81.2 kWh battery. This electric offering will deliver a maximum range of 582 km on a single charge.
The 2024 BMW 5-Series will compete directly with the new generation Mercedes E-Class that is also likely to be launched at the same time. It will also take on the likes of Audi A6, Volvo S90 and Lexus ES in the Indian market.
