2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 India launch set to take place on 24th May, 4 variants on offer
After a brief halt, the top-of-the-line 1200 cc adventure bikes from Triumph will be back again in India next week as the British maker is gearing up to launch the 2022 iteration of its flagship Tiger 1200 range on 24th May. Bookings are already underway.
There will be 4 variants on offer – Rally Explorer, GT Explorer, Rally Pro, and GT Pro. While the GTs are road biased, the Rallys are off-road centric with knobby tires. The Pro models are lower ones while Explorer variants sit at the top-end of the lineup.
While all the variants get 18-inch wheel at the rear, the Rally models get 21-inch and GT models 19-inch wheels at the front.
Even the front suspension travel is a little bit longer on the Rally line. The Explorer models get a humongous 30-litre fuel tank and the road-boased GT variants get smaller 20-litre units.
The 2022 Tiger 1200 range is a good 25 kg lighter than the preceding models. As far as features are concerned, all the 4 variants get nearly the same features but the Explorer ones get an additional blind spot radar.
Power comes from a new BS-6 compliant 1160 cc inline 3 cylinder engine that churns 147 HP at 9000 RPM and 130 Nm at 7000 RPM. Unlike the smaller Tigers, power is sent to the rear wheels by a dedicated shaft drive which means power delivery is nearly lossless.
A 6-speed transmission with slip and assist clutch aides in seamless up and down shifts.
The adventure bikes get premium components like Showa suspension, Brembo brakes, etc. Some of the features on offer include a 7-inch TFT screen with Bluetooth connectivity, riding modes, and traction control.
When launched the new Tiger 1200 range will compete against the likes of the Ducati Multistrada V4 and BMW R 1250GS. Prices are expected to start at around Rs. 20 lakhs (ex-showroom).
