2022 Toyota Land Cruiser Scores Top Marks In ANCAP Safety Tests

The 5-star ANCAP safety rating applies to all variants of the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser sold in Australia and New Zealand, except the GR Sport

The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser has shown strong safety performance in the ANCAP safety assessment, that was conducted recently, scoring the full 5 stars.

As standard, the SUV comes with dual frontal, side (head and chest) and dual knee airbags, Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB), Lane Support System (LSS) with Lane Keep Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK), and Speed Assistance System (SAS).

Adult Occupant Protection –

The new generation Toyota Land Cruiser scored 89 percent or 34.08 out of 38 points in the adult occupant protection tests, scoring full points in both side, far-side, oblique pole and whiplash tests and also for rescue and extraction.

ANCAP found the car’s passenger compartment to be stable, and despite not coming with a front centre airbag (prevents contact between the heads of front seat occupants), the SUV performed well in the side impact tests.

Child Occupant Protection –

According to ANCAP, 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser scored 88 percent or 43.60 out of 49 available points in the tests assessing child occupant protection. The dummies used were 6 and 10 years old.

The car does present a higher risk to occupants of an oncoming vehicle!

The car comes fitted with lower ISOFIX anchorages on the second row outboard seats and top tether anchorages for all second row seating positions. But, top tethers are not available in the third row.

Thus, installation of child restraints is not recommended in the third row. Yet, in both the frontal offset and side impact tests, protection was good for all critical body areas of the dummies.

Vulnerable Road User Protection –

The 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser received the second highest score to date – 81 percent or 44.02 out of 54 points – for vulnerable road user protection under ANCAP’s 2020–2022 protocols.

This ANCAP safety rating does not apply to the GR Sport variant as it remains unrated

It was found that the luxury SUV can avoid collisions with pedestrians, performed adequately in scenarios involving a cyclist and it performed well in all forward pedestrian AEB tests. But, since an AEB Backover system is not standard, related tests were not conducted.

Safety Assist –

As for safety assist systems, the 2022 Toyota Land Cruiser, ANCAP says, did well to get 77 percent or 12.40 out of 16 points in total. As mentioned above, the car comes with a whole lost of safety tech, including a comprehensive Lane Support System (LSS).
