The 2022 Suzuki Swift Sport has been spied again, this time during ARAI testing
In what could be an interesting revelation, the 2022 Suzuki Swift Sport has been spied again in India, this time on test with red number plates and ‘On Test By ARAI’ sticker. This could definitely heat things up as the new hot hatch might be bound for India.
When the first spy shots of the car got leaked a couple of days back, though it seemed like a private import, we were quite skeptical which was the reason we wrote Maruti Suzuki bringing it here for internal testing shouldn’t dismissed. Now, we have the hot hatch undergoing test with ARAI sticker.
Incidentally, the car spotted earlier and this one sport the same white paint job with violet side skirts which could mean they might be the same ones. But, in the latest spy shots, the hot hatch wears the test number plates. Another aspect to note here is that the text on the number plate doesn’t belong to any country and it might most probably be a code word used by ARAI.
Also, the car on test is the reportedly European-spec 2022 model that has undergone some styling revisions and tweaks on the inside when compared to the standard global model. It’s powered by the updated inline 4-cylinder 1.4-litre Booster Jet turbo-VVT petrol engine that puts out 138 HP at 5500 RPM and 230 Nm between 2500 and 3500 RPM. The car can accelerate from 0-100 km/hr in 8 seconds and its claimed fuel efficiency abroad is 18.7 km/l.
The Swift Sport is one of the very few hot hatches in the world with a proper manual transmission offering maximum fun behind the wheels. It can hit a stop speed of 210 km/hr.
The updated model also gets a stiffened up chassis and suspension abroad to offer good handling characteristics. But if, Maruti Suzuki brings it to India, the suspension might be toned down a bit to suit our road conditions. The ground clearance might also be increased and the low profile tyres will be replaced with normal ones.
Coming to the looks, the Swift Sport gets a larger griller with scooped out panels for a meaner look. The creases are more pronounced than the existing Swift and they offer aggressive looks to the car. The hot hatch drives on large 17-inch alloys wheels. At the rear the prominent dual exhausts carry forward the aggressive design language.
Currently, Maruti Suzuki’s no-diesel strategy is hurting its sales big time. The brand is now in dire need of more models to compensate for the slowdown due to lack of diesel models.
