The 2022 Range Rover reveal once again proves the high desirability factor of the SUV
The global reveal of Land Rover’s 2022 Range Rover has finally taken place. The luxury SUV you see here is the brand spanking new fifth-generation model.
Land Rover has ensured that the new Range Rover is as desirable as the models that came before it. Thus, the classic silhouette of the luxury SUV has been retained.
Yet, there are plentiful new details like the new grille, lower air intake and new LED headlamps, up front. Along the sides, one can see 23-inch wheels, blacked pillars, flush door handles, a strong character line and a gently falling roofline.
While the front overhang is short, the rear overhang is long. The tailgate is split and the new tail lamps are vertical. The black panel housing the model name has the indicators.
The luxury SUV is available in standard and long wheelbase forms. The ‘shorter’ version is 5052 mm long, 2047 mm wide, 1870 mm tall and has a wheelbase of 2997 mm, while the long wheelbase model is 5252 mm long, 2048 mm wide, 1870 mm tall and has a 3197 mm wheelbase.
Inside, the 2022 Range Rover has a brand new interior where up to 7 people can be seated (long wheelbase model). Land Rover has used the finest material available to make the insides of the SUV a truly luxurious affair.
Available in SE, HSE, Autobiography and First Edition grades, the new Range Rover comes as standard with 21-inch wheels, 3-zone climate control, cabin lighting, 20-way heated electric front seats with power recline heated rear seats, and Meridian Sound System.
In addition, other standard features include Amazon Alexa, wireless Apple CarPlay and Wireless Android Auto, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, 13.1-inch touchscreen, 13.7-inch driver’s display, 8-inch rear control display and rear entertainment screens.
If the regular Range Rover does not do it for you, then there is the SV range comprising ‘Intrepid’ and ‘Serenity’ models that feature 4 seats, soft aniline leather, ceramics and a mildly different exterior (think different grille and paint finishes) with bespoke touches.
Now, the mechanical stuff. During the 2022 Range Rover reveal, Land Rover said the car will be available with pure diesel, mild-hybrid diesel, mild-hybrid petrol, plug-in hybrid petrol and pure V8 petrol engines, all mated to an automatic gearbox and driving all 4 wheels with all wheel steering.
The petrol mild-hybrid range comprises the P360 (360 PS and 500 Nm) and P400 (400 PS and 550 Nm) models powered by a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder unit. A 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 model (P530) making 530 PS and 750 Nm is also present.
The plug-in hybrid uses the 3.0-litre petrol engine in combination with a 105 kW (141 BHP) electric motor. The total power output of this power unit is either 440 PS or 510 PS depending on the variant chosen and it has an electric-only range of 100 km.
Even the diesels use a 3.0-litre, 6-cylinder unit. They come in D250 (249 PS and 600 Nm), D300 (300 PS and 650 Nm) and D350 (350 PS and 700 Nm) guises and each get a mild-hybrid option.
All models get electronic air suspension with dynamic response, electronic active differential with torque vectoring by braking, terrain response 2 with new Wade programme and 900 mm of wading depth.
During the 2022 Range Rover reveal, it was disclosed that the SV models can be booked overseas from next year, while the much anticipated fully‑electric Range Rover will join the family in 2024.
