The upcoming 2022 Bajaj Pulsar NS250 has been spied on test sporting new bodywork and a brand new powertrain.
Spotted out on public roads near Pune, the quarter-litre motorcycle will be based on an all-new platform that will underpin the entire next-generation Pulsar range.
It is possible that the chassis is derived from the one underpinning the KTM Duke 250, but we cannot say for sure. What we do know is that the new NS250 will be the first of the new Pulsars to hit the streets.
Although the 2022 Bajaj Pulsar NS250 spied on test is completely covered with camouflage material, its new design can be made out quite clearly. It has a visually-heavy front portion due to the tank featuring extensions, while the headlight is relatively small.
Riding on the current-generation NS model’s wheels, the motorcycle has a narrow tail that rises upwards sharply and there is also an upswept side exhaust canister.
It is clear that the 2022 NS250 will have split seats, with the pillion not getting much seating space. There are split grab handles, a small number plate holder and a tyre hugger as well on the bike that is likely to get all-LED lighting.
Featuring telescopic forks upfront and a monoshock at the rear, the bike should sport a new instrument cluster too. We would like to see a latest digital unit which will come with smartphone connectivity.
Now for the heart of the subject – the engine. It is a new air- and oil-cooled unit displacing 250cc and not a liquid-cooled single-cylinder motor.
What this means is that peak power and torque will not be in the range of the Dominar 250. However, it should have NS200 performance with a bit more torque on tap. The gearbox will be a new 6-speed unit.
However, this will help Bajaj keep costs down and enable it to price its NS250 aggressively. Thus, we can expect the quarter-litre motorcycle to be a value-for-money offering.
Since the 2022 Bajaj Pulsar NS250 spied on test looks production-ready, expect it to be launched around September this year and not cost a whole lot more than the NS200 which is priced at Rs. 1.25 lakhs (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
