The specs of the 2022 Maruti Wagon R have leaked already!
Maruti Suzuki is expected to introduce the 2022 Wagon R in March, but the car’s specs have been leaked already on social media through a short video (linked below).
But before we get to what has changed under the bonnet, let’s see the differences that will be immediately visible to the eye and there are a few important things to note here.
First up, the country’s best-selling car will gain 2 new variants – VXI 1.0-litre MT CNG and ZXI+ dual tone (in Gallant Red and Magma Grey colours with blacked roof and ORVMs) in both MT and AMT guises.
The 2022 Maruti Wagon R will also get new 14-inch alloy wheels and on the inside, the popular car will feature Modern Grey Melange fabric upholstery complimenting the dual tone exterior and interior themes.
In terms of features, the base LXI variant in both petrol and CNG forms comes with the bare minimum. There is manual air-con, integrated headrests, front power windows, central door locking, rear parking assist, and 13-inch steel wheels.
Moving along, the VXI grade gets body-coloured ORVMs and exterior door handles, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, central locking with keyless entry, auto door locks, day/night IRVM, rear power window, 60:40-split rear seat, vanity mirror, USB socket, SmartPlay dock, Bluetooth connectivity, 2 speakers and 14-inch steel wheels.
While the ZXI grade only gets blacked B-pillars and steering-mounted controls over the VXI trim, the top-spec ZXI+ variant comes with front fog lamp, electrically foldable ORVMs, rear wiper, washer and defogger, tachometer, 7-inch SmartPlay Studio, smartphone navigation, 4 speakers, front passenger under-seat tray, and 14-inch alloys.
In terms of safety tech, Maruti has equipped the car with dual front airbags, seat belt reminder, seat belt pre-tensioner and force limiter, ABS, EBD, and Hill Hold Control (HHC) for AMT variants.
The leaked 2022 Maruti Wagon R specs sheet also reveals that the car will get the Celerio’s 1.0-litre K10C engine (67 HP and 89 Nm) and the Baleno’s 1.2-litre K12N (88.5 BHP and 113 Nm) engine options. Both will come with idle start-stop technology.
The transmission options would comprise a 5-speed manual and AMT. Maruti claims the Wagon R will come with a fuel economy figure of 25.19 km/l, which we presume is for a variant with the smaller engine paired to the automated manual gearbox.
The 2022 Wagon R will likely cost more than the current model that is priced between Rs. 5.18 lakhs and Rs. 6.58 lakhs (ex-showroom). The hatchback should continue to rival the Maruti Swift for the honour of India’s best-selling passenger vehicle.
