Time Has Arrived For Maruti To Give Its Wagon R A Nip And Tuck

The current generation Wagon R has been a very strong volume puller for Maruti

The 2022 Maruti Wagon R facelift is expected to be launched this February

Top car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki is all set to give the Wagon R a facelift for 2022. Unlike the 2022 Baleno, this ‘tall boy’ will only get a minor design revision.

Ever since it was introduced 3 years ago, the current generation Wagon R has been a sales success for Maruti. It has beaten the Swift on many occasions, including in December 2021.

While the added space inside was a welcome move, the fact that the hatchback is available with 2 petrol engine options and in addition a CNG variant as well, has made it the go-to car for those looking to buy a budget city runabout.

I digress. As for the 2022 Maruti Wagon R facelift, it is expected to come with a tweaked front end with a new bumper, different wheels and a new bumper at the back.

The core design of the hatchback will stay the same

Inside, a seat upholstery change is likely to be the only differentiating factor between the 2021 and 2022 models of the Wagon R. The list of equipment on offer should more or less stay the same.

Maruti could plonk the new generation Celerio’s K10C 1.0-litre petrol motor (67 HP and 89 Nm) in the engine bay of the facelifted Wagon R, replacing the current K10B 1.0-litre unit. If the new engine is used, then engine idle stop-start feature will come with it.

The 1.2-litre engine should remain untouched. Both the 5-speed manual gearbox and AMT will also stay and due to Maruti’s big push toward CNG, that variant of the hatchback will be retained.

As is the case with every facelift, the 2022 Wagon R should cost more than the current model that is priced between Rs. 5.18 lakhs and Rs. 6.58 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi). Its market launch should happen in February 2022.
