Mahindra teases the upcoming 2022 Scorpio ahead of launch, calls it big daddy of SUVs
Mahindra is set to unveil and launch the 2022 next-generation Scorpio very soon as the brand has put up a teaser on its social media handles revealing the same. Calling the upcoming Scorpio, the big daddy of SUVs, Mahindra says it’s target is to capture the D-segment.
Internally codenamed Z101, the upcoming Scorpio, Mahindra says, will redefine the industry benchmarks. Designed by Mahindra India Design Studio (MIDS) in Mumbai and engineered at the Mahindra Research Valley (MRV) near Chennai, the new Scorpio is huge and muscular unlike the outgoing model.
Coming June, Mahindra will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the bread and butter Scorpio, and, by then, the launch should have been completed and deliveries begun.
The next-generation Scorpio is expected to carry forward the success of the recently launched Thar and XUV 700. Sharing almost nothing with the ongoing model, the new Scorpio’s chassis too is borrowed from the new Thar and not from the existing Scorpio.
The SUV is expected to borrow the 2.2-litre diesel and 2-litre petrol engines from the Thar although with a higher state of tune. It will come with both manual and automatic options with an all-wheel drive system as well.
Coming to the interiors, the upcoming Scorpio gets a new dual-tone brown and walnut colour upholstery with thick cushioning and side bolsters for the 4 captain seats. The interior is finished in the usual beige and black combo.
The infotainment system gets the biggest updates. From the looks, it probably seems like a 10-inch unit and has been tucked neatly along with the vertically stacked centre AC vents.
Expect Mahindra to load the system with all features including the current connected-tech ones. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto should also come standard.
On the outside, the muscular design is further accentuated by LEDs throughout. The headlamps seem to be projector units. Though not many information about the exterior is available, expected a lot of design elements, cuts, creases.
When launched, it will compete against the likes of the Tata Safari, MG Hector Plus, and Hyundai Alcazar. Expect a price tag somewhere between Rs. 12 to 20 lakhs.
