The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is the fifth-generation model, while the first version was introduced in 1992
Jeep has revealed the all-new for 2022 Grand Cherokee, which, according to the American automaker is its most technologically advanced and luxurious version of the SUV yet.
This fifth-generation model will be offered in (electrified) 4xe and Trailhawk (4×4) variants and is based on a new architecture.
It also gets a completely new design inside and out. Externally, the SUV looks premium and modern with a wider (by 36 mm), muscular body; tapered roof, expansive greenhouse, and LED lights.
The 7-slot grille continues to be in place, but is larger, wider and now has active grille shutters, and below it sits the long-range radar and other tech, concealed by the front fascia of the car.
In addition, there is a gloss black roof option on select grades, while up to 8 wheel options with sizes ending at 21 inches are on offer as well.
Inside, there are leather seats, while the dashboard houses slim air-con vents, 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster, 10.1-inch infotainment touchscreen and a 10.25-inch front passenger touchscreen.
The cabin also has a revised centre console, new rear-seat entertainment system, electrically adjustable front chairs with seat back massage and heated and ventilated seats for the first 2 rows.
Some more features the car come with are wireless charger, ambient lighting, Amazon Alexa, Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, digital IRVM, 10-inch head-up display, Tom-Tom navigation and 19-speaker McIntosh audio system.
Jeep offers 3 4×4 systems – Quadra-Trac I, Quadra-Trac II and Quadra-Drive II with rear electronic limited slip-differential (eLSD) – for the SUV and each of them are equipped with an active transfer case. The car also has air suspension and Selec-Terrain traction management system and front-axle disconnect.
The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe, which is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) variant, comes powered by a 2.0-litre turbo petrol motor that is teamed to an 8-speed automatic transmission which houses an electric motor, while there is a separate motor generator unit as well. In all, the system delivers 375 HP and 637 Nm of torque.
The PHEV has 40 km of pure electric range thanks to a 17 kWh battery pack, a total range of 708 km, start-stop function, hybrid, electric and eSave modes, regenerative braking and it can ford water up to 610 mm high.
On the other hand, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk features 18-inch wheels with all-terrain tyres, off-road camera and better approach, departure and breakover angles.
In addition to the PHEV powertrain, the Trailhawk variant can also be had with 2 other powertrains – a 3.6-litre V6 (293 HP and 352 Nm) and a 5.7-litre V8 (357 HP and 529 Nm). Both are paired with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.
The new Grand Cherokee lineup comprises Laredo, Altitude, Limited, Overland, Trailhawk, Summit and Summit Reserve trims. While the V6 is standard across the range, the V8 can be had in the top 4 trims and the PHEV in the top 5 grades.
Furthermore, the 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee is equipped with advanced driver-assistance features, Level 2 Active Driving Assist, night vision camera, and several other safety features.
Built at Jeep’s new Detroit Assembly Complex – Mack Plant, the luxury SUV will be available in North America from the fourth quarter of 2021, while the 4xe will come in early 2022, post which global markets will receive it too.
