The 2022 Hyundai Tucson has been unveiled and the fourth generation model comes with more features, multiple powertrain options and different wheelbase choices.
Having racked up over 70 lakh unit sales globally ever since its launch, the Tucson is a strong model in Hyundai’s portfolio. With the unveil of the new iteration, the South Korean carmaker expects to attract even more customers.
Exterior design of the Tucson has been changed drastically in comparison with the third generation model currently on sale. The front grille and how the half-mirror type DRLs are incorporated with it is very striking.
Below sit the headlights and the wide lower airdam, while the bonnet has nice long creases with the outmost ones flowing well with the fender line that runs into the front doors.
Along the sides, we can see square wheel arch cladding, sharp shoulder line that starts from the front doors and ends at the taillights and a similar crease that begins at the bottom of the door only to join the shoulder line before the rear door grab handles.
Roofline does not slope drastically, but it does have a aluminium-finish element to give it a coupe SUV look and at the rear, the full-width tail lamp incorporates half-hidden triangular shapes echoing the DRLs on the front, the Hyundai logo is integrated into the glass, while the wiper now hides under the rear spoiler, not to mention the rear diffuser element.
Hyundai offers the petrol models in seven exterior colours, while the hybrid and plug-in hybrid models will be available in four colours of which three are new.
Insides of the car can be had in black or grey tones in either cloth or leather material, while the dash comes with a wraparound effect with two silver lines that start from either side of the centre of the dash flow till the door cards.
There are dual 10.25-inch touchscreens, one each for the infotainment system and driver’s instrument cluster, while other features offered include ambient mood lighting, voice control, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, BOSE Premium audio system, car-to-home, air purification system, a new Multi-Command function, Blue Link, apart from Hyundai’s Digital Key.
Engine options on the 2022 Hyundai Tucson include – Smartstream 2.5-litre petrol producing 190 PS and 247 Nm and a 1.6-litre, turbo petrol in hybrid or plug-in hybrid versions that makes 230 PS and 350 Nm. The petrol-only model is mated to an 8-speed auto.
According to Hyundai, the hybrid and plug-in hybrid models get a new E-Handling technology to improve steering response and stability while cornering. The new Tucson also gets Hyundai’s HTRAC all-wheel-drive system which comes with additional driving modes in select markets.
An assortment of safety features will come standard with the car, as Hyundai has not skimped on the most important aspect. Further more, the new Tucson will come in a long-wheelbase variant for select markets and get a N Line variant globally which will be unveiled later.
To go on sale in Korea this month as a 2021 model, the new Tucson will be sold in the USA and other global markets as a 2022 model starting from the first half of next year. We can expect Hyundai to introduce the new gen Tucson in India by the end of 2021.
